A very compassionate and readable book (80 pages), written by Father Maestri, a columnist and author. Within the framework of the Roman Catholic tradition, the "series of eight short reflections on the real-life experiences of women who have had abortions. reveals the pastoral concern of the Church for the humiliation and pain of so many who desperately need to be understood, pardoned and given a chance to repair the hurt they have caused and of which they themselves are often the first victims."

Forgiveness: A Bold Choice for a Peaceful Heart, by Robin Casarjian. Published by Bantam Books, 1992. A very helpful and practical book that helps one heal through the process of forgiveness. Includes meditations, and visualizations that are powerful, yet easy to do. Some of the topics covered are: Choosing Forgiveness; Forgiving Your Family; Forgiving Yourself and Forgiving the World.

The Healing Choice, Your Guide to Emotional Recovery After an Abortion, by Candace De Puy, Ph.D. and Dana Dovitch, Ph.D. Published by Fireside (Simon and Schuster, Inc.), 1997. An excellent book divided into three parts: Part I, "The Experience," Part II, "The Aftermath," and Part III, "Acceptance." The authors, both psychotherapists who have worked extensively with women experiencing post-abortion conflicts, encourage readers to begin keeping a journal in order to recount the memories of their abortion experiences, explore their emotions and gain a deeper understanding of their post-abortion experiences. There are very gentle and meaningful exercises at the end of each chapter that encourage reflection and offer creative ways of comforting and nurturing yourself.

This pocket guidebook introduces the healing power of the violet flame, which is a spiritual flame that can be used by anyone at anytime. It offers practical spiritual techniques, prayers and visualizations that you can apply to your life to help create balance, harmony and positive change, including healing from the burden and memory of abortion.

Redeeming a Father's Heart: Men Share Powerful Stories of Abortion Loss and Recovery, by Kevin Burke LSW, David Wemhoff, Marvin Stockwell, published by AuthorHouse, 2007. A unique book about the personal stories of ten men whose lives have been impacted by abortion. Some of them encouraged and paid for abortions; others did not. This book will give men and women, especially, a greater and deeper understanding of how some men suffer from post abortion grief and appreciation of their pain and their burden of loss. Very honest sharing of men's experiences, including how they eventually reached resolution and healing.

Abortion - Medical and Scientific Perspective

Whatever Happened to the Human Race By C. Everett Koop, M.D. and Francis A. Schaeffer. Published by Crossway Books, 1983. Renowned pediatric surgeon and Surgeon General of the United States, Koop collaborates with Schaeffer, a leading Christian thinker, and discusses the widespread implications of abortion, infanticide and euthanasia on humanity worldwide. A good book for a basic understanding of the impact of abortion.

Buddhism

A Path With Heart: A Guide, by Jack Kornfield. Published by Bantam Books, 1993. Offers insight for the Westerner into the universal teachings of Buddhism, including karma and reincarnation. The author is a teacher, psychologist and meditation master. He shares personal experiences - often humorous - along with stories, practical techniques and meditations that offer a deeper understanding of the meaning and purpose of life.

The World’s Religions: Our Great Wisdom Traditions, by Huston Smith. Published by Harper San Francisco, Harper Collins Publishers, Inc., 1991. In this revised and updated edition of the classic, The Religions of Man, Huston Smith, highly acclaimed authority on the history of religions, explores the “essential elements and teachings of the world’s predominant faiths, including: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity and the native traditions of Australia, African, Oceania and the Americas.” The invaluable book is easy to read and emphasizes “the inner - rather than the institutional - dimensions of these religions.” Great for research and personal study.

Reincarnation

Jewish Tales of Reincarnation, by Yonassan Gershom, Published by Jason Aronson Inc., 1999. Rabbi Gershom is an internationally known pioneer in Jewish spiritual renewal and presents "…70 authentic Jewish stories about reincarnation from both classical and traditional sources." Gershom offers insight into the origin of soulmates and an interesting section called Hints and Glimpses, about "Who Was Who" in the Jewish tradition, which includes centuries-old lists of the "spiritual genealogy of great scholars and saints" compiled by several rabbis and mystics.

Reincarnation: A New Horizon in Science, Religion and Society, by Sylvia Cranston and Carey Williams. Published by Theosophical University Press, 1999. This is one of the most practical and comprehensive source books available on reincarnation-easy to read, with works by scientists, theologians, historians and psychologists. The Contents include: "Documented evidence of the belief in reincarnation in Christianity, Judaism, and early European, African, Australasian, and American traditions; Illuminating thoughts on rebirth by celebrated writers, philosophers, and psychologists, including Tolstoy, William James, Carl Jung, Gandhi and Whitman." Fascinating true stories, scientific research and famous people influenced by reincarnation.

Reincarnation: The Missing Link in Christianity, by Elizabeth Clare Prophet with Erin L. Prophet. Published by Summit University Press, 1997. This book is the "missing textbook" in colleges, universities and seminaries that "traces the history of reincarnation in Christianity - from Jesus and early Christians through Church councils and the persecution of so-called heretics." Prophet uses the latest scholarship and evidence from the Dead Sea Scrolls and Gnostics texts to make the case that Jesus taught reincarnation. Reincarnation for the Christians, by Quincy Howe, Jr. Published by the Theosophical Publishing House, 1987. Good basic introduction to reincarnation for people from a Christian background.

Reincarnation: The Phoenix Fire Mystery, edited and compiled by Joseph Head and S.L. Cranston. Published by Julian Press/ Crown Publishers, Inc., New York, New York, 1977. "An East-West Dialogue on Death and Rebirth from the Worlds of Religion, Science, Psychology, Philosophy, Art and Literature, and from the Great Thinkers of the Past and Present." One of the most comprehensive works on reincarnation in modern times. A classic.
